the Right Angler
What I am about to reveal isn’t breaking news. Knowledge of this sordid affair has been around for a long time. You don’t know about it because Ted was (and still is) protected by a corrupt media. The same corrupt media providing Barack Obama cover as he socializes America.
It took the London Times to break this story back in February 1992. They published an article by reporter Tim Sebastian entitled: “Teddy, the KGB and the Top Secret File”. Earlier in the year, Russian President Boris Yeltsin opened the Soviet Archives to the world. Sebastian was digging through Central Committee files when he discovered a bombshell document. It was dated May 14, 1983. Ronald Reagan was President; the Cold War was raging; and Americans were on edge. The document was a highly classified memo from KGB head Victor Chebrikov to his boss, Soviet General Secretary Yuri Andropov. It detailed a confidential offer from Senator Kennedy to Soviet Leadership.
Specifically, Senator Kennedy was “very troubled” by U.S-Soviet relations. He blamed the problems, not on the brutal Soviet Regime, but on President Ronald Reagan’s “belligerence”. Chebrikov wrote: “According to Kennedy, the current threat is due to the President’s refusal to engage any modification of his politics.” Kennedy lamented the President’s popularity, which he believed, only emboldened him.
He wanted Reagan out of office and hoped he’d be defeated in his reelection bid. So did the Soviets. The crux of his offer was detailed in paragraphs four and five of the memo. Chebrikov: “The only real threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations. These issues, according to the Senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign.”
Let’s take a step back here for a second and catch our breath. Two things to keep in mind as you proceed: Senator Ted Kennedy secretly plotted with our most fearsome and dangerous enemy to undermine a sitting U.S. President elected to protect all of us from that very same brutal enemy. This plot was first exposed in 1992.
Back to the memo, Chebrikov: “Kennedy believes that, given the state of current affairs, and in the interest of peace, it would be prudent and timely to undertake the following steps to counter the militaristic politics of Reagan.” Step One was for Andropov to invite Senator Kennedy to Moscow for a personal meeting. Chebrikov: “the main purpose of the meeting, according to the Senator, would be to arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they would be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA.” Step Two was for Senator Kennedy to help the Soviets “influence Americans”. Chebrikov: “Kennedy believes that in order to influence Americans it would be important to organize in August-September of this year televised interviews with Y.V. Andropov in the USA.” Kennedy recommended “direct appeal” by the Soviet Dictator. He also offered assistances with this propaganda from him and his friends, even mentioning Walter Cronkite and Barbara Walters by name. He wanted the Soviets to permeate the American Media and offered to set up interviews for: “lower level Soviet officials, particularly from the military who would also have an opportunity to appeal directly to the American people about the peaceful intentions of the USSR.”
In Kennedy’s view, it was up to the Communist Soviet regime to “root out the threat of nuclear war, improve Soviet-American relations, and define the safety of the world.” Chebrikov concluded: “Kennedy is very impressed with the activities of Y.V. Andropov and other Soviet leaders.”
So what happened next? Did Kennedy and the Soviets execute a plan to undermine Reagan? Did they collaborate on any other top secret projects? We don’t know. No one ever followed up on the 1992 Times piece. No one ever asked Kennedy about it. The American media left Senator Kennedy alone to potentially commit more acts of Treason until he died 17 years later.
Author Paul Kengor wrote the 2006 book: The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism. In it, he published the complete memo. Senator Kennedy’s office didn’t dispute its authenticity. They just argued its “interpretation”. Kengor wrote about the memo after Kennedy’s death in 2009: “when my book was released, there was a virtual media blackout on coverage of the document with the exception of conservative media. Amazingly, I didn’t even get calls from mainstream reporters seeking to shoot down the story. I had prepared in great detail to be grilled on national television, picturing the likes of Katie Couric needling me. I didn’t need worry. I worked up a detailed op-ed on the document…being as fair as possible. No major newspapers would touch it. The Boston Globe editors refused to acknowledge it or reply to my emails. The editors at the New York Times confessed to being ‘fascinated’ by the piece but conceded that he wouldn’t ‘be able to get it in’. One editor at a West Coast newspaper, a genuinely fair liberal, considered it carefully…I was shocked to see that neither the editor nor his staff would do any investigating, not placing a single phone call to Kennedy’s office. Alas, here we are now, after Kennedy’s death…liberal reporters lionized Ted Kennedy in life and have begun the canonization process in death. They are liberal activists first and journalists second.” Apparently, they are Americans third.
There you have it. What should have been one of the biggest scandals in our nation’s history was swept under the rug by a corrupt, ideological media. Keep in mind that the source of this memo was not some Conservative blogger out to get Ted Kennedy, it was uncovered in the Soviet Archives. In the end, it was too credible to report.
This memo and the effort to keep it from you should leave all Americans with many important questions. What other communication did Ted Kennedy have with the Soviets? Did he offer to help Al-Qaeda defeat George W. Bush? Was Kennedy that gullible to believe that the Soviets really wanted peace and would honor any disarmament treaty or was he just willing to risk the lives of all Americans for his own political ambition? What other Democrat scandals have been swept under the rug over the years?
Are “mainstream” news organizations putting all Americans at risk by not reporting on the treasonous activities of liberal Democrats? What is the Left doing right now to undermine our country and your children’s safety and will we find out before it is too late?
I pray that we will.
