the Right Angler
Some of you know that Joe Biden ran for President in 1988. His campaign came to an abrupt end when it was confirmed that he plagiarized, without attribution, a speech by a British politician named Neil Kinnock: “Why am I the first Kinnock in a thousand generations to be able to get to a University … was it because all our predecessors were thick, those people who could work eight hours underground and then come up to play football?” Biden told an audience at an Iowa fairground: “I started thinking as I was coming over here, why is it that Joe Biden’s the first in his family ever to go to University … is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright… who worked in the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football?” It’s been 20 years and the Brits haven’t forgotten about this. Check out this excerpt from a recent column by Dominic Lawson in the British paper, The Independent: “It rapidly emerged that Biden was not the first member of his family to go to university, and that the closest any ancestral Bidens came to working underground was a grandfather who was a mining engineer – and during the campaign Biden also told a number of gratuitous untruths about his own academic record.
Oh yes…the academic record. Lawson is referring to a press conference in which Biden was asked about his law school record. He replied: “I think I have a much higher I.Q. than you do.'' He went on to say that he ''went to law school on a full academic scholarship - the only one in my class to have a full academic scholarship...ended up in the top half of my class…graduated with three degrees from college.” Well, according to the New York Times, soon after, Biden: “issued a formal statement acknowledging that he had misstated several facts about his past.” Biden admitted: “I did not graduate in the top half of my class.” In fact, he graduated 76 out of 85. He then confessed: “'I graduated from the University of Delaware with a double major in history and political science…I said 'three' and should have said 'two.” He didn’t even get the apology right. Biden graduated with one degree. In regards to his full academic scholarship, Biden said this: “'My recollection is - and I'd have to confirm this - but I don't recall paying any money to go to law school.'' I guess you can see why his campaign failed.
Let’s jump ahead. We have been lead to believe that Joe Biden is a Foreign Policy expert. His record tells a different story. He voted against using military force in Iraq in the first Gulf War when they occupied a free Kuwait. More recently, he voted against the Surge in Iraq, presenting instead the “Biden Plan” which would have divided Iraq into three separate ethnic countries. The surge has, of course, worked, and most experts agree his plan would have been disastrous.
He ran for President again in 2008. Once again, he was unsuccessful. He did, however, leave us with this these two gems. First he said that Barack Obama was “not ready for the Presidency.” Then referring again to Barack: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, I mean, that's a storybook, man." I guess you can see why his campaign failed, again.
Graciously, Barack Obama chose Joe Biden to be his running mate. Since that time, Biden has proceeded to stumble and bumble his way through the campaign. Christopher Beam of the Liberal publication, Slate, recently excused his media brethren for ignoring this by writing: “he misspeaks so often, its hardly news—and hardly damaging.” I disagree. Here are just a few of his recent missteps. In an interview with Katie Couric, referring to the Great Depression in 1929, Biden said: “Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened.” The problem. Franklin Roosevelt wasn’t President in 1929 and there weren’t any televisions. Biden told an audience of environmentalists that he was against clean coal technology. The problem. 3 days before he told a group in Virginia that he and Obama would invest $4 billion in clean coal technologies. At a rally, Biden asked MO State Senator Chuck Graham to stand up and be recognized. The problem. Chuck Graham is confined to a wheel chair. One can only imagine the press time given to these stories had they been Sarah Palin’s gaffes.
So, I ask you now, why isn’t anyone in the media questioning Joe Biden’s competency or qualifications. After reading these facts, do you want this man to be our Vice President? The media is digging through trash cans trying to find dirt on Sarah Palin. Meanwhile, Joe Biden is filthy with lies, missteps and gaffes, and we are told he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Obama ticket. Just another example of the sinister media bias that must be exposed.
